You wont find this in tourist brochures
This weekend Grandma, Avo', Mum and Dad took me to the wet market to buy some groceries. It was real fun and people who come to Singapore probably wouldnt see a wet market while they are here.
Its slightly different to supermarkets where "fresh" meat comes from the farm, goes to the abbatoir, then goes to the processor, then to the distributor, then into storage, and then is packaged nicely in gladwrap and a plastic tray with a sticker, and then put on the shelf - all those hands just to ensure freshness. Then it is sold by people wearing matching uniforms and smiles.
At the wet market, you get all the smiles but the produce comes straight from the processor. They dont bother with nice packaging, just a plastic bag - its real convenient. In addition to fish and pork, we bought some kampong chicken. In supermarkets and high end stores, its called organic chicken and comes with a premium.
The vege stall even sells the taro bro. Its cood aye.
The wet market should be part of anyone's tourist itinerary when they come to Singapore.
